Welcome First Grade Families

Happy Spring First Grade Families,

The summer is just around the corner.  We are down to our final days.
This summer, please have your child read a book or a chapter or two each day.  Have them write in their journal fun events that are taking place using words like: First, Next, Then, Afterwards and Finally.  Have them practice their addition and subtraction too.

We also have a lot of fun things planned for the final few days.  Here is a list of dates to put on your calendar.

Save the Date:

* June 6 - Field Day

* June 8 - Room 8 End of the Year Party - Emails were sent.  / Room 3 End of the Year Party - All items supplied.

* June 9 - Room 15 End of the Year Party - Letters went home.

Welcome First Graders

Dear Parents and Future First Graders,

We hope you had a very enjoyable summer filled with many new experiences your child can share in the fall.  Please remember to take some time to have your child continue to practice writing simple sentences, reading picture books and practicing their math facts. This will help them be more successful in first grade.

When they enter first grade, we will begin our year with a quick review of Kindergarten curriculum and then transition to First Grade curriculum.  By the end of first grade, your child will be required to read up to 60 - 80 words per minute, write a personal narrative, an expository and an opinion paper.  In math, they will need to be able to count up to 120 by 1's, 5's and 10's along with adding and subtracting numbers up to 20.

Along with those subjects, we will be exploring areas of science, social studies, physical education and the arts.  We look forward to meeting with you and your child.  Please continue to visit our website with upcoming events and information.
